Jane Powles is a member of the Executive Committee of Just Reinvest NSW. She is the National Campaigns Manager at ANTaR, a national advocacy organisation in support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights and empowerment. ANTaR is currently focussed on 3 key campaigns: the campaign to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in and the removal of racially discriminatory laws from the Australian Constitution, Close the Gap – a generational campaign to reduce the life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians, and a Justice Campaign to reduce the over representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the criminal justice system. Jane has extensive experience in advocacy, management and campaigns across the arts sector and more recently the social justice sector. Prior to her appointment at ANTaR she was employed at Oxfam Australia in the Indigenous Rights Advocacy Unit. She completed her Masters in Development from the University of NSW in 2011.
