A note about Indigenous Data Sovereignty (IDS). We present data collected from various agencies, but that data is not necessarily collected in a way that meets IDS principals. See maiamnayriwingara.org or linktr.ee/aboriginaldatasovereignty for more on how to consider IDS.
While some is collected with the consent of the people who the data are about, other data reflect the current situation which must be understood in order to support the community. So, because a person is counted towards a number presented here, it does not mean they have given their consent to be part of that number.
About the Data
This dashboard uses data from the following sources:
- NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) data provided directly from BOCSAR at LGA level disaggregated by Indigenous Status. Click here for definitions and explanations.
- Population data is sourced from the 2021 Census, exported from Census DataPacks.
- Report on Government Services (ROGS) data: Cost and expenditure information.
Data Suppression: As per BOCSAR requirements, counts between 1 and 4 are suppressed and reported as ‘x’ to support confidentiality and privacy. This is done to protect individuals’ identities in areas with small populations or low incident rates.
What’s Coming
What’s coming next for this dashboard:
- Narratives! Stories connecting the people and drivers behind the numbers.
- Out of Home Care data
- Bookmarks – save your personal selections
- Mobile View
Build your own dashboard
We will be offering training so that community data users can build their own Dashboards. There will be the option to create them from scratch or to use dataset templates we provide:
- Power BI Templates
- Provides the data already set up (called “Dataset”), so it can be used as a base for users to create their own dashboards.
- Dashboard in a Day/Beginner level training required
- BOCSAR Dataset to be delivered June/July
- Priority of other datasets to be discussed
- Standard through to Advanced User-Created Dashboards
- Standard through to Advanced User-Created Dashboards
- Created by a site for a site or a community. Can use organisation or public data sources.
- Standard Dashboards can be created off the back of Dashboard in a Day/Beginner level training. For more advanced dashboards that require statistical analysis or multiple large data sources, Data wrangler level training through to accreditation training is supported.
